“Life will give you whatever experience is the most helpful for the evolution of your consciousness.”
If we all remembered this in each and every moment of our existence I would be out of work very fast, yet I would be joyful. For living in this concept we all must truly be in acceptance, knowing, love and joy, and I would be thrilled to live in this world.
Some years back, I studied Buddhism and there are these amazing stories of great Buddhist teachers who invite discord, illness, strife into their life, because they get this quote. They believe to overcome less than appealing situations burns off their unwanted karma and supercharge their path to enlightenment. For most of us, we judge, criticize and experience heaviness of heart when things we deem as ‘bad’ happen to us. Can you imagine rejoicing in these events?
Who truly knows what is good or bad?
The situation we always live in is like that of the wise Chinese farmer whose horse ran off. When his neighbor came to console him the farmer said “Who knows what’s good or bad?”
When his horse returned the next day with a herd of horses following her, the foolish neighbor came to congratulate him on his good fortune. “Who knows what’s good or bad?” said the farmer.
Then, when the farmer’s son broke his leg trying to ride one of the new horses, the foolish neighbor came to console him again. “Who knows what’s good or bad?” said the wise farmer.
When the army passed through, conscripting men for war, they passed over the farmer’s son because of his broken leg. When the foolish man came to congratulate the farmer that his son would be spared, again the wise farmer said “Who knows what’s good or bad?”
So often we fight against what shows up for us, what we create and what is most needed for our evolution when moving toward it, embracing it, working with it and through it is what truly moves us in the direction of our greatest self.
Enjoy your journey of evolution…I’ll see you there!
